After their ceremony at Hyde Park Community Methodist Church, Tara and Chris stopped for a few quick private moments at Eden Park on the way to their Banker's Club reception. They were so "into each other" that they hardly noticed they we were recording their special wedding day memories. They were a special couple!
(Double click on video to start) I've seen a lot of things in my 36 years in the wedding business. From cakes falling over... to people fainting... to priests calling the bride and groom the wrong names during the ceremony. . . to reception tents falling over in a storm . . . to a father of the groom having a heart attack during the receiving line. . . to the life squad taking someone out of the sanctuary on a stretcher during a wedding mass, etc... you name it and I've seen it. But, recently something happened to me that has never happened before. My team and I arrived at the Cincinnati Art Museum for Jen and Ben's wedding. After scoping out the locations I wanted to use for the pictures, I got on the elevator with my personal assistant, my PJ (my candid photographer), the Groom, his 5 groomsmen, his mother and his aunt. All nine of us were stuffed into the elevator that looked like it was made to hold 5 or 6 people for the short trip from the basement to the 1st floor where we were going to start the first shots of the day. We felt like sardines! So, we're all talking and having a great time when all of the sudden someone realized that the elevator (which normally is a slow moving one) wasn't moving at all. It was a hot Saturday, one of the few we've had lately and all of the men in their tight fitting tuxes started to sweat. It quickly became unbearable. One of the groomsmen picked up the elevator phone and called museum security. They told us they already knew we were stuck but they couldn't do anything for us as we were stuck between the two floors. They wanted us to be patient and they would think of something. After a few more minutes, they called us back to tell us that they had called the elevator company but they didn't know how long it would be until they arrived. Well, it was now really hot and patience among the wedding party and parents was running thin. I tried to keep everything lite! So, two of the groomsmen decided that they would try and force the inner doors open to see how far we were from our destination. After much effort, they forced the inner doors open to find that we were only about two feet or so shy of our destination. The guard on the other side of the outer doors told us not to try and open the outer doors but to wait for the elevator company to arrive. The groomsmen tried anyway. Between them and the museum guard who ended up pitching in, they finally forced the outer doors open and the guard helped everyone up and out of the hot box! We hadn't even started the pictures yet and everyone was totally exhausted and dripping wet. We sat down and drank some water. Since we also needed the Bride, her mom and the bridesmaids, we called them on a cell phone and told them to take the stairs up the one flight. At that point we were about a half hour late with the starting of the pictures and I desperately wanted to get back on schedule. I didn't want this to ruin Jen and Ben's day. So, we joked about it and I quickly got everyone back on schedule. Jen and Ben were a pleasure to work with, they were so much fun and so very cooperative. Given the circumstances, I couldn't have asked for a nicer couple. I had a blast . . . but I always do. And, the pictures turned out great as you can see by Jen and Ben's mini-wedding montage I created for them. Check it out by clicking on the video above. I don't know about the rest of the bridal party but I slept like a baby that night! By the way, from now on, I'm taking the stairs at the Art Museum! Thanks also to my wonderful vendor partners for helping to make Jen & Ben's wedding so wonderful. Thanks to Jen from the Art Museum, Jeff Harper for the video, Ron Padgett from Pollination for the wonderful flowers and Goodwin Lighting for the mood lighting!
